COLUMBUS, Ohio — A third suspect in the shooting death of a man near an east Columbus bar last year is now in custody.

Police arrested 48-year-old Lee Gill III on Wednesday and charged him with one count of murder. The arrest and charge stem from the shooting death of 40-year-old Jeffrey Chandler on Oct. 26, 2022.

Police were called to Platform Lounge, located at 1058 Country Club Road in east Columbus, and found Chandler with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead about 20 minutes after the shooting, police said.

Records from Franklin County Municipal Court state that Chandler, Gill, Charles Williams Jr. and Dominic Elmore were engaged in an argument in the parking lot outside the bar.

During the argument, Gill and Elmore pulled out handguns and fired shots into the vehicle Chandler was sitting in.

Court records say Williams was seen on surveillance video running to a vehicle and removing a rifle from the truck. Williams was then seen running in front of the bar with the rifle and firing several gunshots at Chandler.

Court records add that Chandler left the vehicle and attempted to run away from the scene. He was then struck by one of the bullets. Another bullet hit a home near the bar.

Shortly after the shooting, Williams Jr. and Elmore were taken into custody. The three suspects are currently being held in the Franklin County Correction Center.
