Hundreds of people across the Dallas-Fort Worth area have turned to emergency shelters this week to escape the cold, icy conditions that have covered the region. That has placed a strain on their resources.

"This has been a busy week not only for Housing Forward, but several of our inclement weather shelter partners," said Housing Forward President Joli Richardson. "We have partners in Irving, Garland, McKinney and Plano."

The organization is looking for volunteers to help staff those shelters during this time of increased demand. Richardson says volunteers are not required to have special skills or extensive training.

"People can go to our web site and they can find all of the various locations that may need additional volunteer support and assistance," she said.

Richardson predicts they will keep the inclement weather shelters open through Friday.
