Jessica Pratt to Headline First-Ever German Performance of Mercadante’s ‘Francesca da Rimini’

Oper Frankfurt is set to present the German premiere of Saverio Mercadante’s “Francesca da Rimini.”

The Saverio Mercadante opera will get its first ever showcase on Feb. 26, 2023 followed by  another seven performances thereafter; the final show in the run is set for April 8, 2023.

The Mercadante opera will star Jessica Pratt in the titular role with Kelsey Lauritano as her Paolo. Other cast members include Theo Lebow as Lanciotto, Erik van Heyningen as Guido, Karolina Bengtsson as Isaura, and Brian Michael Moore as Guelfo. For the final two performances on April 2 and 8, audiences will see Anna Nekhames as Francesca and Hyunjung Kim as Guelfo.

The production, which will be directed by Hans Walter Richter and conducted by Ramón Tebar, will feature dancers Gabriel Wanka, Annalisa Piccolo, and Bernardo Ribeiro. The production is presented in cooperation with Tirol Festival Erl.

“Francesca da Rimini” originally premiered in 2016 at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, over 185 years after it was completed in 1831. The work was written by Felice Romani.
