Salt Lake City police recently shared videos of bodycam footage from a fatal officer-involved shooting.

According to officials, the incident began on Jan. 13 around 2:30 a.m. in the area of 1300 West and Arapaho Avenue, when officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department located a vehicle with both people inside wanted for a violent felony.

Officers later identified the driver as 41-year-old Penisimani Halai. The name of the passenger was not released.

Police pursued the vehicle, which stopped when the driver collided with a parked car.

Following the incident, Halai went towards a random nearby residence, shattering the window and entered inside.

"Officers ordered him to stop and surrender. While giving commands, body worn camera captured Halai reaching for the home’s door handle. There also appears to be an object in Halai’s waistband, according to body worn camera video," SLCPD said.

Additionally an officer deployed their taser on Halai, and two other officers shot.

"Prior to the shooting, body worn camera captured one of the officer’s referencing Halai in possession of a weapon," a SLCPD press release stated.

Prior to entering the house, a third officer fired additional shots.

Several officers entered the house through a window, the front door, and the garage. Officers discovered Halai inside the home, where two people living inside the home were also present.

Officers said they located and secured a weapon in Halai's possession when they took him into custody and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Halai died on Jan. 21, ten days after the initial incident.

The three officers who shot at Halai were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
