Wide temperature swings just means it's spring time in Arizona

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - The Phoenix Fire Department extinguished a brush fire at a salvage yard behind an auto repair shop on Saturday afternoon. Around 3:00 p.m., firefighters were called to a 2nd alarm fire at a salvage yard near 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. It is reported that the brush fire spread to a building on the property along with some of the vehicles in the salvage yard. Multiple crews were on the scene using a “Big Water” operation to extinguish the flames. “Our biggest challenge with these types of fires is protecting exposures to other businesses and property around,” said Joseph Huggins, Public Information Officer for Phoenix Fire Department.

Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical officials responded to a house fire in a neighborhood near North 16th Street and East Carefree Highway. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke billowing out of the front door and were able to put out the fire. A dog was rescued from the house but was found unresponsive and not breathing.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Scottsdale police say a man visiting from Minnesota has died after being hit by a car late Wednesday night. According to officers, the 70-year-old man was hit in the area of Scottsdale and Cochise roads, near Shea Boulevard around 11 p.m. The man was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Authorities say the driver stayed at the scene and that impairment or speed don’t appear to be factors in the crash. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Photos and video surveillance footage of the suspects who took a 15-foot spoon from a west Phoenix Dairy Queen have been released. The spoon was first reported stolen in the early morning of March 25 at a Dairy Queen near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road. Silent Witness is offing up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the two men and the woman in the surveillance video. The video shows one of the men crouching next to the spoon, appearing to unbolt the base of the spoon from its anchor. The woman and the other man appear to be looking out for the man next to the spoon.

TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A motorcyclist is dead after failing to negotiate a curve near Mill Avenue and Apache Boulevard early Saturday morning. Tempe police responded to reports of the crash around 3 a.m., and when officers arrived, they learned that a motorcyclist slid off of the road while trying to make a turn. He died at the scene. No helmet was found in the area, and a bottle of alcohol was found near the motorcycle.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- CBS News has learned that Jacob Chansley, the man known as the “QAnon Shaman” has been transferred to an Arizona halfway house. CBS News Congressional Correspondent Scott MacFarlane reports that Chansley was moved from federal prison to the Phoenix area with a projected release date of May 25. Chansley had pleaded guilty to obstructing the Electoral College proceedings and was sentenced to 41 months in prison back in November.

According to Arizona Department of Public Safety officials, an SUV driver was in the south lanes of the Loop 303 near Indian School Road when they crossed through the dirt median and collided with a car heading north. The SUV driver was ejected and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
