Martins Ferry officially has a new city auditor.
Jack Regis Sr. leaves his seat on council to fill the position after Rita Randall stepped away.
Regis places another role under his belt as he previously has served as Martins Ferry's mayor in the 1980's, and most recently ran for Belmont County commissioner in 2022.
Mayor John Davies said Regis' experience should serve him well as auditor.
“Jack's going to make things a lot more simple to the public, and that's important,” Davies said. “A lot of times, there are things they just won't understand. His level of expertise will suit him well."
With Regis stepping in as auditor, that leaves a seat unfilled on city council. The Democratic party will now have 45 days to select a candidate to fill the seat.
Regis was unable to attend Wednesday’s council meeting but had this to say in his resignation from council: "I intend to have an open-door policy and on making the reports very easy to understand. I want to thank council for all the things we have accomplished and look forward to even more success as auditor."
