A former Blount County corrections officer has been accused of assaulting an inmate, according to Sheriff Mark Moon.
Joseph Snow, 43, was booked into the Blount County jail Tuesday morning on a second degree assault charge. According to a grand jury indictment, Snow was charged with physically assault to the point of causing serious injury to an inmate.
“He snapped, and we don’t know why," Moon said. "When I watch the videos, there was nothing that the inmate did that deserved this type of treatment. Not that anyone deserves this type of treatment. What he did not only went against our policy and procedure on use of force, but it went against everything that we stand for. I was extremely disappointed and sickened by his actions.”
Moon said Snow was placed on administrative leave after the incident and has since been fired.
According to court documents, bail was fixed at $30,000 with several conditions. Snow was released from the county jail 29 minutes after being booked Tuesday.
