Wednesday marked National Signing Day for college football.

Duluth East celebrated hosting an afternoon signing ceremony. Carter Svobodny officially committed to the University of Mary Marauders football team, while Brady Schubitzke put pen to paper to join the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils.

“My whole life I was always watching NSIC football. I watched UMD games as a kid, so it’s been a big deal for me to be able to play for a school in the NSIC. They compete at such a high level,” Svobodny said.

“Since I was young just loved the sport of football and I’ve been all about it. It’s cool to be able to play for four more years and not just be done after high school,” Schubitzke added.

Schubitzke was a three year, two way starter on the offensive and defensive lines. A captain in 2022 he was a All Section 7-5A first team selection and plans to study construction management.

Svobodny was a two year starter on the Greyhounds’ offensive line. In 2022 he was an All Section 7-5A honorable mention. He plans to study mechanical engineering.
