School buses were caught on camera blowing through a stop sign in Bellmore.
Homeowners on the block say it's common for buses and other vehicles to go through the stop sign at the corner of South Saint Marks Avenue and Fisher Place.
They say it creates a dangerous situation and some don't let their children play in the front yard because of it.
"It's alarming, no doubt about it, it's alarming," says Michael Botier of Bellmore. "You'd want buses, out of all vehicles, to be the ones that abide by the rules more than anybody."
News 12 reached out to Guardian Bus Company and spoke with the executive vice president. He said safety is their No. 1 concern.
"We want to apologize," he said in a phone call with News 12. "We want to make sure that we have the safest drivers."
The company sent a safety officer to the corner after News 12 contacted them.
The executive vice president said that an officer will be back by the intersection later this week.
"The drivers will be retrained, and the law will be reinforced, and we will have our safety team out there making sure this never happens again," he said. "Safety is paramount and we care about the safety of these kids, and we care about the behavior of our drivers."
Several cars were also seen running through the stop sign.
Neighbors say they hope there will be more of a police presence at the intersection.
News 12 reached out to the Nassau County Police Department about the intersection.
It's not clear how many complaints they've had about the stop sign.
Neighbors say they have occasionally seen police cars looking for violators.
