‘This forecast is going to push the limits’: Police Chief Randy Gagne advises caution, check on elderly, bring animals inside

I'm sure by now everyone is aware of the dangerous temperatures we will be experiencing starting Friday. We live in Maine so were use to snow and cold, but this forecast is going to push the limits.

A number of events have been canceled for Saturday. The Toboggan Nationals will now be a one day event scheduled for Sunday.

Check your event before heading out to see if it has been canceled or not.

During this time of extreme cold keep an eye on your elderly family, friends and neighbors. Please check in and make sure they're doing OK. If you are concerned about someone feel free to contact the Knox County Regional Communications Center at 594-5656. They will dispatch an officer to do a check.

Please also remember your cats, dogs, chickens, or any other animals. Bring them inside or make sure they have proper shelter, food, and access to water.

Please report any animals that you may see that do not have proper shelter. We will not accept " Oh my animal likes the cold weather" for an answer. We're going to go with they don't actually like the "Arctic Blast" cold weather, and you need to take the animals inside.

Be careful and be prepared if venturing out Friday night through early Sunday morning.
