"For those who are 62 or older or have a family member who is disabled, they can get it as a grant," Ramirez said. "It's free money, no strings attached, and they can get repairs such as replace their windows or maybe the air conditioning needs replaced, maybe they need to replace the roof."

Ramirez said the city also has a Housing Rehabilitation and Purchase Assistance Program.
"The housing rehabilitation program can go up to $95,000," Ramirez said. "That one is a soft loan, it is zero interest, zero monthly payment, the forgivable loan with a term of 15 years."
The goal is to provide assistance for residents who are in need.
"It is very rewarding because people work very hard for their money, and we are living in an economy that we all are struggling," Ramirez said.
