Leave the booze behind if you plan on attending the free Nelly concert Friday night at Mardi Gras Park after the Conde Cavaliers roll. Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine says he wants concert goers to be in good spirits but not consume them during the live show.
"I have deemed that to be a no alcohol zone," said Prine.
Prine says he made the booze ban call this week as an added safety precaution for an anticipated large crowd.
"Drinking, consuming alcohol or any other substance for that matter, it just really creates a vulnerable situation if you find yourself in an argument or an altercation with an unknown person," said Prine.
Police say outside drinks won't be allowed into the concert area, and non-alcoholic drinks will be sold.
"It's just a one block radius," said Prine.
Prine says there will be heavy police presence not just for the concert but also for the parade that precedes it. Marked, mounted, and undercover units will be in full force. Prine says the department is asking the community to partner with them to keep large events safe.
"If you see something, say something. Don't just walk past a situation. If you walk past a group of men that are arguing and bickering, you don't have to intervene, but how about just go to the nearest police officer and tell them so we can move enough resources over there to be able to effectively resolve that," said Prine.
The Senior Bowl free concert is expected to begin at approximately 8 p.m.
