Original story:
A barricade situation with an armed suspect has prompted a shelter in place order for some Fernley residents.
Just before 1 p.m., deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office received multiple reports of a man firing a gun in the street and yelling at passersby in a neighborhood south of Fernley High School.
Police said the suspect refused to listen to their orders and went back inside his house in the area of Oliver Branch Court where he is still barricaded inside. Hostage negotiators are on scene working to make contact with the suspect.
Due to the dangerous nature of the call, a shelter in place order has been issued for the Southwest Meadows subdivision.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is working with local schools and bus drivers to ensure students who ride the bus in that area are sheltered in place until the order has been lifted.
