Chattanooga PD to Address Tyre Nichols Murder at Town Hall

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Police Department announced they will hold a town hall meeting next Monday the 6th. The meeting will center around the recent murder of Tyre Nichols by five Memphis PD officers.

Police Chief Celeste Murphy wants this event to be a show of support for the community. “Some people just wanna talk, and so I’m just allowing an opportunity and a space for people to be able to talk,” she said when asked about the reason behind the town hall.

Those who want to voice their opinions or thoughts on the matter can do so at the meeting, but it will also act as a way for the community to learn about Chattanooga PD.

Police Chief Murphy and members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Chattanooga will speak at the event about how the CPD is reshaping it’s culture and holding officers accountable.

Police Chief Murphy wants everyone to know that CPD is mourning with them. “when they’re hurting we want to let them know we’re hurting with you as well. We’re going to heal together as well. We’re gonna grow together,” she said.

The town will take place from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the Greater Community Church of Chattanooga. For more information you can email Charlotte McKee at CharBMcKee@aol.com
