The Cowboys remain steadfast in their commitment to Dak Prescott being their quarterback of the future despite an up-and-down 2022 season that saw him throw a league-leading 15 interceptions in the regular season and another two interceptions in the playoff loss to the 49ers.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said the organization is expecting Prescott to be their quarterback for a very long time and is open to talking about an extension with him this offseason to lower the quarterback's salary cap hit.
"Dak is going to be our guy for, hopefully, the next 10 years. You say that's a long time because he's already played six or seven, but I think Dak will play that long because he takes care of himself, and he's driven to be great. And we fully expect him to be here for 10 years," Jones said, according to Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com.
Prescott has two years remaining on the four-year, $160 million contract he signed with Dallas during the 2021 offseason.
Should Dallas not restructure his contract this offseason, Prescott will count $49 million against the 2023 salary cap and another $52 million in 2024. So if Dallas wants to make any other moves to improve the roster this offseason, it would behoove them to get something done with their quarterback.
