ROCKLAND — Leo C. Dostie, 92, died peacefully, Friday, January 27, 2023.

Leo was born in Augusta, on May 26, 1930, the son of Leo J. and Matilda Gilbert Dostie. He graduated Cony High School as a member of the National Honor Society.

He married Joan Labbe, April 23, 1951 at St. Augustine Church in Augusta. Joan sadly passed away December 8, 2007.

Leo was in the Maine Air National Guard from 1947 to 1952. He worked as a sales representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company from 1953-1985, Bookkeeper for Village Variety from 1985-2001 and assisted his son Rick in the Masonry business on a part time basis for several years.

Leo was involved in the Rockland Little League, Camden Outing Club Board of Directors, Rockland Crime Watch, and Advisory Board for Depositors Trust Company. As a communicant of St Bernard’s Catholic Church, he served on the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, Chairman of St Bernard’s Beano Committee, member of K of C, charter member of Limerock Assembly K of C, assisted the Pastor at funeral services and led parishioners in communion service of Daily Mass in absence of the Pastor.

Leo had many hobbies throughout his life including skiing, hiking, camping, gardening and sports (Red Sox and Patriots). He built four of his six children’s homes and later in life enjoyed antiquing and helping his wife with her crafts business. Leo will be missed by many but his family will miss him most. His entire life was based around his family and his faith. Being a good Christian, Leo said “I realize that I have two purposes in life, which is to love and serve God in this Life, and to be with Him in the next”. He has done just that.

Leo is predeceased by his parents; wife, Joan; daughter Linda Burgess; son Rick Dostie; siblings Constance Coloumbe and Norman Dostie; and sons-in-law, Stephen Watts and Keith Burgess.

Leo is survived by his son, Larry Dostie and his wife Angela of Hope; his son Rick’s wife, Judy of Warren; three daughters, Elaine Hallett and her husband Guy of Rockland, Barbie Sylvester and her husband Steve of Rockport and Janie Watts of Rockland; 10 grandchildren, Melanie Hallett, Ben Burgess, Mike Dostie, Justin Burgess, Sara Nelson, Erin Doherty, Ashley Hallett, Jacob Sylvester, Danielle Deal and Emily Watts.

He is survived by 21 great-grandchildren, Alivia Hallett, Avery Hallett, Makenzie Watts, Noah Ludwig, Evan Burgess, Lydia Watts, Alison Sylvester, Adalie Doherty, Riley Nelson, Madelyn Dostie, Owen Doherty, Kaitlin Sylvester, Charlotte Dostie, Ava Nelson, Ezra Deal, Logan McRae, Thea Deal, Liam Sylvester, James McRae, Nolan Sylvester and Natalie Deal; siblings Gilbert Dostie and Margaret Rioux.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 10, 2023, at 10 a.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland. Private interment will be held in the spring.
