TUNNELTON — Robert V. “B.J.” Haught III, 43, of Tunnelton, went into the arms of God on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Morgantown, on Feb. 26, 1979, a son of Robert V. Haught Jr. and June (Grosvold) Haught of Tunnelton.
B.J. was a loving husband, father, son and brother. He was a 1997 graduate of Preston High School, where he excelled in the JROTC program, auto mechanics and lettered in wrestling.
B.J. proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the 646th Quarter Master Company and was awarded the sharpshooter medal.
He made use of his mechanic skills by working for several area dealerships over the years, as well as working on his own old cars and Harleys.
To B.J., his family and friends were everything. He married the love of his life, Lori, on Oct. 2, 1999. He loved spending time with his children. He spent countless hours with Abagail and Hunter riding motorcycles, doing crafts with Victor and coaching tee-ball.
B.J. was bold in his faith and truly loved his God. He attended the Grace House in Tunnelton where Pastors Dave Biggins and Anthony Favro became friends and mentors to him and were there for him throughout many tribulations in his life.
B.J. was the first person to successfully complete the MAT program at Preston Memorial Hospital and was 18 months clean and sober. He was getting ready to start a job as a Recovery Coach, which would have been very fitting for him since he loved helping people in need. To all those he mentored, he would want them to look at him as an example of what they can become.
He had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and loved riding with family and friends. He was the president of the WV Chapter of the Sacred Bones Society for many years and a member of the WV Patriot Guard Riders. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was proud of his tattoos, many of which he completed himself.
In addition to his parents, B.J. is survived by his loving wife, Lori (Conner) Haught; two sons, Hunter and Victor Haught; one daughter, Abagail Haught; one brother, Wesley Haught, and wife Lori; and one sister, Kori Haught, all of Tunnelton; nieces and nephews, Mikayla, Christian, Isaac, Destiny, Gracie and Lylah; mother- and father-in-law, Charles “Buddy” and Joanne Conner; sister-in-law, Lisa Teets, and husband Bill; several aunts and uncles; special friends, Zack Hoover, Miles Clark, Larry Morris, Brian Amos, Mike and Sonja Haught, and many, many more.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Shirley Haught and Ralph and Daisy Grosvold; special friend, Raymond Lemasters (whom he thought of as a brother), and a nephew, Matthew.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Sunday, Feb. 5, from noon until 7 p.m. and at the Valley Point Apostolic Church, 9188 N. Preston Highway, Albright, on Monday, Feb. 6, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. time of service, with Pastors Dave Biggins, Anthony Favro and Jay Kelley officiating.
B.J. would want everyone to feel welcome, so the family invites you to come as you are. To honor his wishes, he will then be cremated.
An inurnment will be held at a later date at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, where military rites will be conducted.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Preston Memorial Hospital MAT Program, 150 Memorial Drive, Kingwood, WV 26537.
