MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — Mountain Home High School was placed under lockdown on Wednesday due to a threat specific to the school according to an email from the district's superintendent, James Gilbert. Police have arrested the suspect and the school is out of lockdown.
"The suspect in yesterday’s lockdown situation at the high school has been apprehended by law enforcement," Gilbert said. "The individual was seen walking in the vicinity of Hacker Middle School this afternoon. The building was briefly placed in lockdown while law enforcement arrested the suspect. I want to thank all of you for your support and concern over the last couple of days. This community is amazing!"
The email, sent out to parents and staff, said the person who made the threat is not on campus. The school was placed in lockdown "at the recommendation of law enforcement," the email says.
Mountain Home Police said in a press release they responded around 8 a.m. based on "vague" information from "third hand sources."
"MHPD acted out of an abundance of caution, and assisted the high school with a lockdown at the facility. The lockdown was in effect for the remaining school day. MHPD was assisted by deputies from the Elmore County sheriff and troopers from Idaho State Police," the release said.
In an update email sent out late-afternoon, Gilbert said that the lockdown "was a result of a threat made by someone in the community to a specific student who attends Mountain Home High School" and not directed at the entire school.
