Douglas County Sheriff's Office makes arrests in connection to overnight double shooting

Two people are in custody after a double shooting that is believed to be the result of a domestic disturbance in Douglas County, Kansas, overnight.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at a residence shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.
As officers arrived at the home, deputies say they noticed someone driving away from the property. Officers were able to stop the vehicle from leaving the scene.
Inside the residence, they found an unidentified 47-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman suffering from gunshot injuries. Both shooting victims suffered critical injuries during the incident but are expected to survive.
A 24-year-old man from McFarland, stopped in the car leaving the scene, was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic battery.
According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses told deputies the 24-year-old shot both victims during a family dispute and is related to the victims and shot them.
A 20-year-old man from Lawrence is also in custody on suspicion of aggravated battery connected to the investigation.
Police have not publicly identified anyone involved with the incident.
