Carbondale isn’t the only town in the Roaring Fork Valley to find good art. The Glenwood Springs Art Council is closing their Strength 10×10 Art Show and Sale on Friday. “Art is one of the foundations of a healthy community,” Glenwood Arts Council Board President Laurie Chase said.

The current exhibition at Carbondale Clay Center is a rarity, featuring artists from outside the Carbondale Clay Center network, many showcasing their work for the first time. “In my time, this is the first time we have done an exterior show,” said Matt Eames the center’s studio director. “We are focusing on the RE 1 School District. Basalt High School art teacher Denae Statzer brought the idea to us about a year ago.”

The deadline to submit designs for The 52nd Annual Carbondale Mountain Fair Poster Design contest is quickly approaching. The contest, which will see the winning design be displayed on a multitude of T-shirts and posters at the Carbondale Mountain Fair spanning from July 28-30, has gained a lot of traction over the years and has become a staple of the fair.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Matilda (Tillie) was the youngest of two children of Frederick and Kathie Winterkamp. A graduate of the local high school, Tillie went on to attend THE Ohio State University in Columbus earning a degree in Personnel Management. During her time at OSU, Tillie was a member of three honorary societies, Chimes (Treasurer), Mortar Board and Mirrors. She was President of her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, while belonging to the Women’s Panhellenic Council and the Fraternity Managers Association. Tillie was part of the Student Senate and First Vice President and part of “The Big Three” that kept the wheels turning for the WSGA (The Women’s Self Government Association). Tillie was also Secretary for Strollers, a group that produced one-act plays on campus. (Regardless of her activities and successes on campus, it is safe to say that the highlight of her college career was Rolly.)

Jesse Robert Davis (77) better known as Bob or JBob – passed from this life into the hands of his Lord on March 9, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Bob suffered a brain stem stroke. He was the son of Betty (Clagett) and Wally deBeque of Carbondale. Bob graduated from Roaring Fork High School in 1963, attended CSU in Fort Collins, CO and Mesa College before marrying Shari Hooton in 1965. Together they were blessed with children – Brad, Mark and Tiffanie.

An ongoing proposal to morph a swath of land in east New Castle into a mixture of residential units and commercial properties is being revisited next week. At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, New Castle staff and leaders are slated to meet with representatives of The Romero Group. The Basalt-based developer is now proposing to build 183 residential units and another 52,000 square feet of commercial real estate at Lakota Canyon Ranch. The site visit begins at the intersection of Castle Valley Boulevard and Faas Ranch Road.

The first new section of the long-envisioned Lower Valley (LoVa) trail west of Glenwood Springs to be built in more than a decade is finally under construction. Phase three of the larger project is to include a new 700-foot segment from where trail now ends just beyond Mitchell Creek near the Audi dealership and the West Glenwood Sanitation District treatment plant.
