P eople are more convinced that former President Donald Trump knew he had classified documents inside his personal residence compared to those who believe the same thing about President Joe Biden, according to a new poll.
A vast majority (80%) say they believe Trump knew there were classified documents inside his Mar-a-Lago home when it was searched by the FBI in August, according to recent polling from Monmouth University. That far outweighs the number of people who believe the same about the classified materials that were found in Biden’s Delaware residence , with only 58% who believe the president knew they were there.

People were equally concerned that the information found in the classified materials would become national security threats if they were found in the wrong hands, the poll showed. Another 85% believe it’s likely that more former presidents and vice presidents have classified documents in their homes.
The latest numbers come as Republicans have sought to liken Trump’s and Biden’s circumstances, especially as the former president hopes to use it to salvage his White House run.
For the most part, the results have shown that people are equally concerned about the document discoveries. However, the survey also reveals that people are far more convinced Trump was aware of the documents before they were recovered by the FBI — which could spell trouble as he seeks to win the GOP nomination in 2024.

Meanwhile, Biden’s approval ratings have remained steady over the last month despite reports of classified documents being recovered from his home. About 43% of people approve of Biden’s job performance, which is up 1 percentage point from the month before, according to the Monmouth poll.
The Monmouth University poll surveyed 805 adults between Thursday and Monday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.7 percentage points.
