Since its introduction for the 2022 model year, the Ford Maverick has been a hot product. It might be a small truck, but it has proven that not everyone wants something big. In fact, Ford’s small truck has been so popular that buying one feels nearly impossible. And it does not look like sales are dying off any time soon.

How many Mavericks has Ford sold?

In Q4 2022, Ford was able to move 22,568 Maverick pickup truck units. That’s an increase of 77% when compared to the same time in 2021. For the entirety of 2022, Ford’s small truck sold 74,370 units, showing just how popular this compact pickup is.

Overall, sales increased in the United States, Argentina, and Brazil. But, according to Ford Authority, sales did dip in Canada and Mexico. Even so, the Ford Maverick is dominating its segment. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is not a bad truck, but it is not keeping up with Ford’s pickup.

The Ford Maverick is small but mighty

The 2023 Maverick might be a unibody truck, but it does have some legitimate capability. It rides on the same platform as the Ford Bronco Sport, and it can do things like tow and haul. When properly equipped, the towing capacity of Ford’s small truck is 4,000 pounds.

One of the biggest changes for the 2023 Ford Maverick is the Tremor package. The Maverick already had an FX4 package, but the Tremor really does take things to the next level. It gives this pickup truck a one-inch lift and a revised all-wheel drive system. While the Maverick is not meant for heavy off-roading, it can handle some light trail duty.

Can you buy a 2023 Maverick?

Unfortunately, if you want a 2023 Ford Maverick, you might be out of luck. The Blue Oval opened orders for this truck back in 2022, and the books stayed open for about a week. That is a reflection of how hot of a commodity this compact pickup is.

Not only is Ford struggling with the order process, but actually delivering the Maverick to customers has proven difficult as well. If you placed an order for this truck, there’s a good chance that you have not received it yet. And that is because it is being hit heavily with supply chain issues.

Hopefully, as time goes on, Ford can figure out how to keep up with the demand for the Maverick. Understandably, folks have been getting frustrated with the situation surrounding it. If you have ordered this small truck and haven’t received it yet, that certainly is not ideal.

Small trucks are back

For the longest time, no one was selling a truck that was legitimately small. But that has changed with the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. And with the popularity of these two pickups, it’s not to think that brands like Ram and Toyota might be considering small trucks as well.

But until or even if that time comes, the Maverick will likely continue to dominate its segment.
