Arrest made in Taylorsville double homicide; believed to be drug related

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in the double homicide of two victims in Taylorsville.

Two people were found shot inside a car near the Atherton Park Apartments near 4500 South and 875 West around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they said the male driver had been shot in the head and was already dead. The passenger had been shot in the chest and was still alive. Officers performed life-saving measures but were ultimately unsuccessful, and the passenger died at the scene.

Officials with the Taylorsville Police Department said detectives were looking into a lead when an attorney for Rafael Antonio Torres contacted them and arranged for his surrender.

Torres was booked on suspicion of aggravated murder and obstruction of justice.

The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Eduardo Moreno-Lujan. The other male victim has not been identified.

Investigators believed the shootings were drug-related.

A gun believed to have been involved was found at a nearby mobile home park.
