Lady Tigers Stay at #3, Tigers Lose Ground in State Poll

Both Republic basketball teams remain in Missouri’s top ten, according to the state’s coaches, but the boys team fell a notch despite wins over two ranked teams at the Liberator Tournament.

The Lady Tigers (16-3) are ranked third for the third week in a row. Incarnate Word Academy and Truman still hold the top two spots, while Raytown, Park Hill South, and Grain Valley are four, five, and six.

Nixa, still ranked seventh with a 13-4 record, will host the Lady Tigers on February 6.

Columbia Hickman, Columbia Rock Bridge, and Raytown South round out the top ten in the girls rankings.

On the boys side, Staley hangs onto the top spot despite an overtime loss last week to Vashon. Undefeated Nixa is ranked second. Oak Park, Lee’s Summit West, Park Hill South, CBC, and Kirkwood fill the spots directly ahead of Republic (18-1). Kirkwood, still unbeaten, jumped ahead of the Tigers in the last round of voting. Chaminade and Kickapoo fill the final two spots in the top ten.

The Lady Tigers have wins over seven
ranked teams: Raytown (Class 6, No. 4), Grain Valley (Class 6, No. 6), Cape Notre Dame (Class 5, No. 4), West Plains (Class 5, No. 6), Jefferson City (Class 5, No. 9), Strafford (Class 3, No. 1, twice), and El Dorado Springs (Class 3, No. 2). Their losses are all to ranked teams: Park Hill South (Class 6, No. 5), Carl Junction (Class 5, No. 1), and Helias (Class 5, No. 3).

The Tigers have beaten Bolivar (Class 5, No. 10), Thayer (Class 3, No. 3), Hartville (Class 2, No. 3), Sparta (Class 3, No. 7), and Fatima and Blair Oaks (both receiving votes and/or ranked at the time in Class 4). Their only loss was to Springdale, Ark.
