ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A 58-year-old woman was successfully rescued from underneath a public bus after she was struck late Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
St. Petersburg police said a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) bus was headed west on 1st Avenue North when the bus made a left turn to travel south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Street North.
At the same time, a 58-year-old pedestrian stepped off of the curb and was struck by the PSTA bus, becoming pinned underneath.
Authorities said she was not in the crosswalk.
After she was rescued, she was transported to Bayfront Health with life-threatening injuries.
The driver was not injured and remained at the scene until authorities arrived. There were no passengers on the bus.
An investigation is still ongoing.
