In honor of Black History Month, the Brownwood Art Association is proud to present Our Voice:  Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award.  This exhibition was organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL) in Abilene, Texas, and features 34 framed digital print reproductions of award-winning illustrations.  The books that featured the illustrations will also be on display.

The opening reception is Thurs. Feb. 2, from 5-7 pm,  at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave.  This event is free and open to the public.  The reception is hosted by LeCorya Finley and Anthony Reine.  Special guest speaker will be Eric Jordan.

The exhibit continues through Feb. 22, with two additional special events planned.  Kandice Harris will share poetry on Thurs. Feb. 16, at 5:30 pm, and Domonique Glaeske will share music and singing on Wed. Feb. 22 at 5:30 pm.  Please come and enjoy these events at no charge.

The Coretta Scott King Book Awards for authors and illustrators are presented annually by the Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table,  part of the American Library Association.  This exhibit will feature winning illustrations from 1974 through 2017.  The exhibit was made possible by a grant from the Harriett Gully Beadle Foundation in Brownwood.

Regular gallery hours are 2-6 pm weekdays.  Gallery hours will be extended during the week of Feb. 6 to Feb. 10, from 9 am to 6 pm, to allow everyone a chance to see this special show.  For more information about the Brownwood Art Association, visit www.brownwoodart.net or find the B.A.A. on facebook.
