The grief-stricken dad of a Michigan girl who was found dead near her school said he is “so lost” without his daughter and wished he could “trade places” with her in heartbreaking social media posts.
Adriana Davidson, 15, who was known as Addy, was found dead Monday near the athletic fields outside Ann Arbor Pioneer High School.
Her family had reported her missing after she failed to return home from school.
“This is the hardest thing I’ve even had to do but, my daughter Adriana was found and she has passed on,” Addy’s dad, John Davidson, wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“I’m not sure where I go from here but, I am so grateful for all the support and love from everyone across this nation especially family and friends that have helped searching and posting for Adriana.”
In a later post, Davidson shared a photograph of himself and his daughter in a vehicle.
“I can’t remember how old she was here,” he wrote, adding that they were apparently at a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru.
“It’s that smile! She just lit up a room with it! Oh baby girl I don’t want this! I want to trade places with you so you can live and bring all that love and laughter you did to so many!” Davidson wrote.
“RIH (rest in heaven) I hope you are at peace my beautiful daughter. I am just so lost without you,” he added, along with broken-heart emojis.
Davidson also asked for people to hold off on contributing to a GoFundMe account to raise money for the funeral, saying he has an insurance policy.
The shattered dad added that the family needs time to grieve before announcing information about the funeral.
“I don’t want family and friend donating if I can cover this through my policy. I’m grateful for all the support and I will post once I know where we stand as far as the funeral expenses go,” he wrote.
The 15-year-old arrived at school by bus Friday morning but left soon after, bus surveillance video showed. She was seen in other footage returning to the school later but not going inside.
Her friends reported that she was not feeling well.
The girl’s brother Anthony Lopez said one of her best friends told him she received an alarming text in which Adriana responded “No” when asked if she was OK.
Authorities said an autopsy was completed Tuesday but its results have not been disclosed, ClickOnDetroit reported.
Ann Arbor police are still investigating the death. There were no indications of foul play, officials said.
“We know there’s a lot of unanswered questions, as well as a lot of misinformation about the death of Adriana Davidson being shared on social media,” police said.
“The family and the community deserve answers, and we will be transparent about what happened as our investigation unfolds. While Adriana’s death is tragic — right now, we are not currently searching for anyone else who may be involved in her death, and there is NO threat to the community,” the department said.
Public Schools Superintendent Jeanice Swift expressed sorrow over Adriana’s death.
