Resident’s checks stolen from two different mailboxes: Brecksville Police Blotter

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio

Fraud: Windswept Drive

On Dec. 28, a Windswept Drive resident came to the police station to report fraud.

The man told an officer that the previous month, he had mailed some bills with checks that never made it to the intended businesses.

One of the checks was altered from $225 to $7,000, but it was returned. Another written for $143 was also changed to $7,000 and was deposited into a Bank of America account via an app.

The resident had mailed the checks from exterior mailboxes located at both the Broadview Heights Post Office on Royalton Road and the Brecksville postal hub on Brecksville Road.

The victim’s bank put a stop payment on all of the missing checks that haven’t been cashed. There are no suspects. Police are investigating.
