A member of the Bayville First Aid Squad was killed Monday night when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle turning from Route 9 into a shopping center parking lot in Lacey Township, officials said.

Michael McCabe, 49, was riding north on Route 9 and the southbound vehicle was turning left into Sunset Plaza when the crash took place at about 6 p.m., Lacey police said.

McCabe, a life member of the Bayville First Aid Squad, died of the injuries he suffered in the crash.

Photos from the scene showed an SUV with damage to the passenger side doors and a motorcycle on its side. The driver of the vehicle is a 55-year-old woman from the Forked River section of Lacey.

McCabe was remembered fondly by the EMS squad.

“Mike was always known for his happy and cheerful personality that lit up a room when he walked in and regardless of any situation, he always kept a positive mindset that was influential on many,” the Bayville EMS said on social media. “He loved helping his community and really valued what he was able to do for people in any way.

“Mike was a big advocate for our squad and many other emergency service organizations and he was able to do many great things to support us all through the Knights of the Inferno Motorcycle Club Mother Chapter, which he was also a proud member of. Most of all, Mike was so proud of his kids and family which he always talked about the most.”
