Update, 5 p.m.: All CMCSS schools will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday, according to a news release. Pre-K classes are canceled. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

“We appreciate our custodians and maintenance employees who have been working diligently to prepare campuses, and we thank our community’s highway and street departments for their hard work. Please exercise caution as there could still be isolated slick spots,” the release said.

“CMCSS will have crews out very early tomorrow morning to check roads and campuses. Should the conditions require a change from a delay to a closure, we will notify families early tomorrow morning.”

Update, 2:45 p.m.: We’ll have another round of freezing rain tonight, but not as bad as last night’s weather. Light freezing rain and sleet, along with some light snow, is expected, according to the National Weather Service.

“An additional light glaze of ice could occur in some areas, especially west of I-65, but no significant impacts to travel are currently expected.”

“As temperatures warm above freezing Thursday morning, any wintry mix will become all rain before ending by Thursday afternoon or evening.”

Update, 12:45 p.m.: Side roads and even sidewalks are much improved across the city. Main roads and highways are clear.

Update, 9:20 a.m.: Interstate 24 is back open at mile marker 19.

Previously:

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The main roads are passable, but your driveway, sidewalks and side streets will be dangerous this morning. Freezing rain and sleet fell overnight, so most surfaces are covered in a thin layer of frozen sleet and ice.

County roads are still icy and slick, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. “If you have to be on the road please be extremely cautious,” MCSO said.

“Some of the major thoroughfares are clear, but there is still snow, ice, and some extremely slick conditions in other areas and side streets,” Clarksville Police said. “The salt truck crews are working diligently to get the roads cleared, so if you have to travel this morning, allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, slow down, and anticipate stopping well before you apply the brakes. If possible, please stay home and off the roadways.”

Interstate 24 westbound was closed at mile marker 19 just north of Pleasant View in Robertson County due to a crash.

Temperatures today should rise above freezing to 35, and with sunny skies, so conditions should improve as salt trucks complete their work. But another wintry mix is possible tonight with temperatures expected to be around freezing, which could cause a few back roads and overpasses to become slick.
