Doctor Who unveils new Jon Pertwee full season Blu-ray boxset

The latest classic Doctor Who season to get a Blu-ray boxset features the Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee.

Following on the heels of a remastered box of Sylvester McCoy's debut in the '80s, the season 9 set flashes back more than a decade to find the Third Doctor travelling to Peladon and the farthest reaches of time itself.

In this 1972 season, the Third Doctor (Pertwee) and companion Jo Grant (Katy Manning) once again join forces with the Brigadier (Nicholas Courtney) and UNIT to battle enemies on earth and beyond.

Their travels put them right in the middle of a political conspiracy on the planet Peladon, while a trip to earth's future reveals the Daleks have taken control of the planet.

As he'd done in the previous season, The Doctor's arch-nemesis The Master (Roger Delgado) returns to befuddle his enemy by aligning with the Sea Devils and summoning the timeless creature known as Kronos.

Featurettes bring together Katy Manning (Jo), Peter Davison (The Doctor), Wendy Padbury (Zoe), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Janet Fielding (Tegan), Sophie Aldred (Ace), and director Michael E Briant to discuss pivotal moments in the franchise.

You'll also get rare convention footage from 1986 of Nicholas Courtney (aka the Brig) and Richard Franklin (Captain Mike Yates) discussing their UNIT stories.

Several hours of bonus features are included, too. These include movie-length remixes of the stories, a documentary of Katy Manning revisiting locations from the episodes, and a behind-the-scenes special on the creature design.

Doctor Who returns in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
