The Indianola wrestling team was just six points shy of a consecutive appearance at the State Dual Tournament Tuesday night at Valley High School. The Indians defeated Norwalk 37-22 in the first round, getting wins by Jensen Dyer at 113lbs, Isaac Seger at 120lbs, Ryan Young at 126lbs, Bowen Downey at 132lbs, Jake Pontier at 145lbs, AJ Pontier at 160lbs, Dax Clatt at 170lbs, and Isaiah Kellow at 182lbs to earn the victory and advance to the regional final against Valley. Norwalk would find wins from Tyler Harper at 106lbs, Donovan Card at 138lbs, Dominic Tigner at 152lbs, Harrison Tripp at 195lbs, and Kolton and Maddux Borcherding-Johnson at 220lbs and 285lbs respectively.

Against Valley, the Indians fell behind 24-3 early, only getting points from Dax Clatt at 170lbs before going on a run to get them back into the contest. Carson Cooper at 106lbs, Jensen Dyer, Isaac Seger, and Bowen Downey scored 15 points to cut the lead to 24-18, only to see valley get a win by fall putting them up 30-18 with three weights to go. Cael Meacham won by fall at 138lbs to give them a chance, his 100th career victory, and Jake Pontier won at 145lbs to cut the lead down to 30-27, but Valley earned the last weight by decision to pick up the win.

Both Indianola and Norwalk have their dual seasons come to a close, and both teams will next compete in their individual state qualifying meets on February 11th.
