SAN ANTONIO - Winter Storm Warning through Thursday includes Bexar County, as well as Guadalupe, Comal, Val Verde, Uvalde, Medina, Fayette, Wilson, and Gonzales Counties. Periods of freezing rain are expected to continue over a good portion of the local area. Significant ice accumulation impacts are now considered likely over the Hill Country and Central Texas, including the Austin and San Antonio metropolitan areas.
The freezing rain has begun to blanket San Antonio and many of the surrounding counties on Wednesday morning, which will cause ice build up on the roads and on tree limbs. Freezing rain will cause road issues during the morning commute with the possibility of a .25" of ice buildup with bridges/overpasses slick including some roads especially back roads or secondary roads. The southern half of Bexar County will see a glaze to .10" at most and some won't see any ice in the southwestern corner of the county where it stays just above freezing.
Freezing rain will linger in northern Bexar County through late morning then transitions into the Hill Country before tapering off the rest of the day to just isolated, spotty activity but most areas outside the Hill Country will be above freezing.
We stay overcast with shower chances early Thursday, but any ice concerns dissipate as temps will climb into the 50s. Drier and milder by Friday into next weekend, with highs back in the 60s.
