Rare comet makes its closest approach to Earth in 50,000 years

For the past few weeks, Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) has caught the eyes of stargazers in dark night skies. On Wednesday, Feb. 1, it will make its closest approach to earth. 

It has an orbital period of roughly 50,000 years, meaning that the bright blue-green comet with a golden tail hasn’t been visible from Earth since Neanderthals roamed the planet.

Annie Oakley was born on August 13, 1860, in Darke County, Ohio. Her birth name was Phoebe Anne Mozee, while other scholars report her last name as being Moses. Oakley received a limited formal education, but she became an expert markswoman at a young age. Oakley traveled with the "Buffalo Bill" Cody's Wild West Show.
