A Las Vegas man is behind bars after he allegedly threatened to shoot a valley synagogue, according to an arrest report.
Michael Sanchez, 37, was taken into custody on Sunday, Jan. 29, on suspicion of making a threat concerning an act of terror.
Rabbi Shea Harlig of the Chabad of Southern Nevada says Sanchez called the synagogue Sunday morning, saying Jews are child molesters and rapists and they deserve to die.
Sanchez also allegedly brought up the fatal shooting at a synagogue in Poway, California, from four years ago, saying the shooter did the right thing.
Rabbi Harlig says Sanchez called another local synagogue and made similar threats.
According to an arrest report from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the rabbi reported the call to the FBI and they identified Sanchez as a suspect.
The FBI then contacted the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center and officers with LVMPD started investigating.
Officers went to Sanchez's home and he admitted he made the call, according to the arrest report, though he did not have any weapons to carry out a shooting.
Sanchez told police he was an Army veteran who was deployed to Iraq twice. A discussion of medical information is redacted, though officers noted that he showed signs of paranoia.
Sanchez is scheduled to appear for a hearing in Las Vegas Justice Court on Wednesday. He is being held on $20,000 bail.
