This Season’s Hottest Wedding Dress Trends From Lovely Bride

The city’s newest bridal boutique offers inclusive sizing, warm service, and the latest in bridal fashion

Calling all soon-to-be brides: if you haven’t already spotted the white flowers decorating Eddy Street’s newest storefront, you’re in for a treat! That’s right – downtown Providence now has its very own bridal shop, and it doesn’t get better than saying “yes” to the dress in the Creative Capital.

Established in 2010, indie bridal shop Lovely Bride is all about discovering new designers, stocking the freshest looks, championing body positivity, and empowering all women with inclusive size ranges. As owner Katie Wadhams relays, “our brides deserve the real deal.” Before finding your dream dress, read on for the hottest trends Wadhams is seeing in bridal fashion this season, and what’s on its way out.

REINVENTING SLEEVES: Gowns with sleeves are a regular request from brides – this season, they’re taking on new life. Removable chiffon balloon sleeves are popular and allow a bride to convert her look. We’re also seeing accessories that lend a “sleeved” look, like opera gloves with fun details like pearls or floral appliques, removable shoulder bows, and wings.

BEAUTIFUL BOWS: Whether in a formal or casual context, bow details are popping up everywhere, from the backs of ball gowns to beach-ready looks. Bows lend an updated detail to the simple silhouettes that have been so popular the past few bridal seasons.

FRESH NECKLINES: Plunging necklines were the go-to for the past few years, but lately we’re hearing from brides that they want something more modest and fresh. This season is all about a cowl or scoop neckline. Cowls with a spaghetti strap or strapless gowns with a structured bodice and soft drape are really beautiful ways to modernize your bridal look. They feel soft, feminine, and perfect for brides who want something with more coverage.

INTRICATE DETAILS: Lace is a constant in bridal fashion, and this season, we’ve seen it become very delicate and refined. Designers seem to be moving away from large-format lace patterns in favor of intricate designs. We’re also continuing to see texture and 3D floral applique work trending, giving gowns a really interesting and rich feel.

RUCHING RETURNS: Especially on the ever-popular simple crepe and satin gowns, ruching draped on the bodice and across the front is paired with scoop necklines and slits to give this detail a modern look.

CLEAN AND CLASSIC: Simple crepe and satin fit-and-flares, ball gowns, and a-lines are never going out of style. Brides love the timeless quality of these dresses and know they’ll still love them looking back on their wedding photos decades later. Brides today are adding interesting accessories, bows, gloves, and sleeves to help the tried-and-true style feel modern and “right now.”

FIGURE FLATTERING: A gown that makes a bride feel beautiful will always be timeless. At Lovely, we encourage brides to look for something that feels like the best and most bridal version of themselves – something they will be so excited to put on for their wedding day. For some, that means a trendier look and for others it means something that will never go out of style – but at the end of the day it’s most important that they feel beautiful in it and it flatters their figure.
