Decisions are notoriously difficult to make. The same holds true for NBA teams. Picking a direction can make for a difficult decision. Sometimes, the path is obvious.
Other times, you could really go one way or another. For example, a team in the middle of the league’s standings is often faced with difficult decisions.
Should they try to climb toward the top, or willingly move toward the bottom? That’s the question the Utah Jazz have to ask themselves. At 26-26, this team could go either way.
Another team that is struggling with balancing short-term results versus long-term plans is the Dallas Mavericks. Coming off a Western Conference Finals run, the team has been pretty mediocre at 27-25 despite receiving MVP level play from Luka Doncic.
The Mavericks are limited in the assets they have to build around Doncic, and they have a supporting cast with many of their players reaching 30 or already have passed that mark. Dorian Finney-Smith is a key piece as a 3-and-D option, but he’s also one of their few players that could net a positive return in a trade.
If the Mavericks indeed are willing to part with Finney-Smith, the Jazz are a team that has already been heavily linked with trade interest.
Here’s a deal that has them splitting the difference.
