PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Glendale police say a fiery crash may have been the result of street racing along a stretch of Peoria Avenue early Tuesday morning. According to Ofc. Gina Winn, officers were called out to the area of 51st Avenue and Peoria after two cars crashed into each other around 2:30 a.m. Investigators say they believe that two vehicles were racing along Peoria when they allegedly ran the red light. where one of them crashed into another vehicle that then rolled over several times before coming to a stop. Police say at that point, the suspect’s vehicle burst into flames. Those inside the suspect’s car took off on foot but were later found at a nearby hospital. The suspect reportedly suffered serious injuries while the victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

SURPRISE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Authorities say a man is dead after a shooting involving officers at a Walmart parking lot in Surprise Tuesday afternoon. Around 12:20 p.m., Surprise police were called about an unwanted guest in a Walmart parking lot near Grand Avenue and Bell Road. Officers arrived and found a man sitting in the backseat of a car with the door open and tried to talk to him. Police say the man was yelling and argumentative, so the officers asked the man to get out of the vehicle. According to investigators, that’s when the man yelled at officers, “I have a gun,” and reached under a pile of personal items. Officers fired at the man, killing him.

Melissa Soliz, officers were called out around 12:30 a.m. to the area of Cave Creek and Beardsley roads, not far from the off-ramp of the Loop 101 freeway on reports of a crash. Officers arrived and found that a bicyclist suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car that took off from the scene.

Just before midnight, Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies were called after gunshots were heard during a house party near 193rd Avenue and Roosevelt Street, just east of Jackrabbit Trail. MCSO says at least three victims were shot, including one adult and two teens. All victims drove themselves to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to court paperwork, Corinna Theresa Dietz bought a home with her mother in 2019, and the deed was written that if the house was sold, Dietz would get all the money. But the mother moved and wrote the money from the sale would be put in a trust where Dietz and her sister would get the money. Police said Dietz didn’t know of the change, so when her mother died and sold the home, she became “enraged” that she’d have to split the money with her sister. On March 20, Dietz recorded herself pouring gasoline throughout the house and lighting five different fires, according to court paperwork.

The city of Phoenix is taking legal action against Tempe regarding the proposed Coyotes entertainment district and arena. Officials said on Tuesday the Phoenix Aviation Department filed a complaint against Tempe over the proposed apartments and homes directly under Sky Harbor’s flight path. Phoenix is suing Tempe for breach of contract, asking the court to cancel Tempe’s mixed-use zoning and land use changes and ban any residential buildings from being built in the area.
