Detectives with the Hawai‘i Police Department are continuing their investigations in three cases involving missing people from Puna during the past few years. Although not confirmed, police do suspect foul play might be involved in each of the cases.
The three missing people are:
37-year-old Jarryd Lee Kalanihuli Ah Quin, who was reported missing in early October 2019 and has not been seen or heard from since. He was known to frequent the Hilo and Puna areas.
54-year-old Joseph David Smithey, who was reported missing in late June 2021; however, he had not been seen since late May 2021 at his residence on Lehua Street in Mountain View.
41-year-old Jennifer Michelle Showen, was was reported missing in early July 2022 and has not been seen or heard from since. She was last seen at her residence on Ina Street in Hawaiian Beaches.
Throughout the course of their investigations, detectives with the Hawai‘i Police Department Area I Criminal Investigation Section have conducted countless interviews, completed forensic analysis of cellphone and financial records and followed up on numerous tips from the public.
