A Candler woman on trial for murder in the death of her boyfriend said she shot him in self-defense.
The deadly shooting, which happened in 2020, was captured by a camera inside the couple's home.
A jury was seated late Tuesday afternoon after two days of numerous questions about owning guns and North Carolina's Stand Your Ground Law.
Shannon Nicole Daves, 49, is charged with murdering her live-in boyfriend Roger Michael Evans on Dec. 23, 2020.
Evans was 47 years old at the time and well-known in Candler, where he owned a popular car wash.
A dog monitor camera captured the couple's heated argument -- and the shooting.
During jury selection, Daves' attorney told prospective jurors the tape, which is a key piece of evidence, wasn't gory but intense.
Prosecutors said Daves committed murder and wasn't firing in self-defense.
The defense said she shot to defend her life and stand her ground after Evans went to get his handgun and came back to the argument, where Daves was already in possession of her gun.
Opening statements start Wednesday morning.
