SAN DIEGO — A 25-year-old man was shot near a park Tuesday in San Diego’s Fairmount Village neighborhood, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 2:08 p.m. at 3700 Fairmount Avenue, located next to Officer Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park and around the corner from the City Heights/Weingart Branch Library and City Heights Recreation Center, Officer John Buttle with the San Diego Police Department confirmed with FOX 5.
Police were informed by the victim that a group of men dressed in black asked if he was from East Side. The 25-year-old told the group he did not “bang,” turned around and was then shot in his right buttock.
The victim ran away from the scene to University Avenue and treated at a local hospital where he had surgery, according to SDPD. However, the bullet was not extracted due to it being embedded to his abdomen. He is listed in stable condition.
Police describe the shooter as man in his 20s wearing a black shirt and black or blue jeans.
