A Lawrence man has pleaded guilty in a fatal New Year's Day drunk driving crash. Adrian Martinez, 39, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence and one county of aggravated battery while under the influence. The New Year's Day 2022 crash killed 20-year-old James Henderson, Jr. It happened in the 2500 block of West. 6th Street on Jan. 1, 2022. “Mr. Martinez made a reckless and selfish decision,” District Attorney Suzanne Valdez said on Tuesday. “I’m committed to aggressively prosecuting those who choose to endanger each of us and put innocent lives at risk by being impaired and getting behind the wheel.”He will be sentenced on March 9. He faces 38 to 172 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for involuntary manslaughter and 31 to 136 months in the KDOC for the aggravated battery charge.

It happened in the 2500 block of West. 6th Street on Jan. 1, 2022.
