ORANGE COAST LEAGUE WRAP-UP: Costa Mesa upsets league-leading Calvary Chapel

Costa Mesa High School’s boys basketball team captured a 77-46 Orange Coast League victory over league-leading Calvary Chapel Monday night at Costa Mesa.

The loss knocked Calvary Chapel, which was alone at the top, into a virtual tie for first place with St. Margaret’s in the final week of the league season. St. Margaret’s (10-2) has completed its league season while Calvary Chapel (9-2) finishes up Wednesday at Saddleback.

Costa Mesa built a 39-20 halftime lead and led 52-35 going into the final stanza.

Joshua Galamgam scored 14 points and Aidan Ogo and Christian Dasca had 13 points each for Costa Mesa (13-13, 8-3).

Rafael Sermarini scored 11 points and Sam DeVries eight points to lead Calvary Chapel (16-10 overall).

Calvary Chapel at St. Margaret’s will be the top seeds from the league in the CIF playoffs that begin next week.

Also on Monday, St. Margaret’s defeated Orange 75-40 and Santa Ana (17-7, 6-5) topped Saddleback 79-31 to clinch an automatic berth in the CIF playoffs, according to Coach Zach Johnson. All 10 Saints players scored in the victory.
