Traffic is flowing slowly in both directions on Interstate 90 near Drummond as crews work to clear a seven-vehicle crash scene.
Six people were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Montana Highway Patrol says a westbound commercial vehicle was driving too fast for conditions when it hit a concrete barrier and drove into the eastbound lanes, where it was hit by other vehicles.
In all, the crash involved two commercial motor vehicles, three passenger vehicles and two wreckers.
The two wreckers were at the scene responding to another crash.
This incident happened just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday near mile marker 144, west of Drummond.
The Granite County Sheriff's Office said the interstate is at a standstill.
I-90 was closed for some time, while eastbound traffic was diverted at mile marker 138 onto the Frontage Road.
The Montana Department of Transportation said drivers should expect major delays.

According to the preliminary investigation, seven vehicles including two commercial motor vehicles, three passenger vehicles and two wreckers were involved in the incident. Six individuals were transported by ambulance to Missoula hospitals with serious injuries.
A westbound commercial vehicle was traveling too fast for conditions and collided with the dividing concrete barrier causing the vehicle to travel into the eastbound lanes where other vehicles collided with it. The two wreckers that were hit were already at this location stopped at another crash. These are preliminary findings as the investigation is ongoing.
Traffic is now flowing slowly in both directions. I-90 is expected to be completely open within the hour.
