CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – First responders in Clarksville and Montgomery County helped to bring some happiness to a child on Tuesday with a drive-through for 3-year-old Grayson Ruiz. Grayson was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 1 year old, and Jan. 31 was his last appointment for treatment.
Close to 20 vehicles from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Clarksville Police Department and Clarksville Fire Rescue passed by his home on Bradfield Drive with lights flashing and sirens roaring. Grayson was joined on their lawn by his father, Nathan, and 5-year-old brother Mason.

Because of the cold and damp weather, his 6-month-old little sister Luna stayed inside. At one point, Grayson was showing off his Certificate of Completion of his treatment from Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Grayson’s mother, Brianna, said it has been a long journey. “Not only because he had to physically go through it but as part of the family. Now that he’s done, we get to put that aside and just relax and focus on everything else that life has to offer,” she said.
Ruiz added that the family was extremely lucky their son was still with them and they were able to bring him home. “He’s a vibrant, rambunctious 3-year-old, and being able to have a parade come through our neighborhood was a highlight of our day, and we’re extremely grateful,” she said.
