COVERING YOUR HUMIDITY TODAY AT THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT HELPING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PREPARE FOR THEIR FUTURE CAREERS. STUDENTS GETTING THE CHANCE TO MEET DOZENS OF LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS AND LEARN ABOUT THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS THAT THE DISTRICT OFFERS. JADE JARVIS HAS MORE FROM THE PALM BEACH COUNTY CONVENTION CENTER. THE MAIN GOAL OF THIS EVENT IS TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE CAREER PATHS AVAILABLE HERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND BEYOND. WE HAVE A MALE STUDENT ACTUALLY WITH US RIGHT NOW AS THEY GO FROM BOOTH. TO BOOTH. THESE PALM BEACH COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE WALKING AWAY WITH A BETTER IDEA OF WHAT THEIR FUTURE COULD LOOK LIKE. I WANT TO BE A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT SO I WENT TO EVERY KIND OF LIKE HEALTH CARE, MEDICAL. SOPHIA, A SOPHOMORE AT WEST BOCA COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, ALREADY KNOWS WHAT SHE WANTS TO DO. I MEAN, MY SISTER WAS JUST KIND OF TALKING ABOUT IT. WE BUILT SUCH AN AMAZING BOND OVER THE YEARS AND WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING TOGETHER. SO SHE IS A FUTURE OLDER THAN ME AND WE WANTED TO OPEN UP OUR OWN MEDICAL SPA BECAUSE, LIKE, IT’S SUPER FEMININE AND IT’S ALL ABOUT BEAUTY AND THAT’S WHAT WE LOVE. NOW THE CLAIM NEAR FUTURE SHOWCASE IS HELPING HER HONE IN ON HOW SHE CAN ACHIEVE THAT GOAL. THE BENEFIT IS THEY GET TO SEE JOB OPPORTUNITIES RIGHT HERE IN PALM BEACH COUNTY CAREER PATHS, AND THEY CAN DECIDE, YOU KNOW, HOW THEY WANT TO FURTHER EDUCATION, WHETHER THAT BE COLLEGE OR CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION OR MAYBE JOIN THE ARMED FORCES OR, YOU KNOW, JUMP RIGHT INTO THE WORKFORCE. SUPERINTENDENT MICHAEL BURKE SAYS THE ANNUAL EVENT IS A COLLABORATE ATION BETWEEN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT BOARD FOUNDATION OF PALM BEACH COUNTY. THE PARTNERSHIP HELPS THE DISTRICT TAILOR THEIR CAREER CHOICE PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE FUTURE WORKFORCE, AND STUDENTS ARE GRATEFUL. I LOVE IT BECAUSE LIKE YOU KNOW, IN A LOT OF OTHER DISTRICTS AND COUNTIES AND STUFF, THEY DON’T DO STUFF LIKE THIS. AND I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO SEE LIKE WHAT ELSE WE CAN DO, WHAT CAN WE DO OVER THE SUMMER AND LIKE, I THINK IT’S JUST A REALLY GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US. IN ADDITION TO THE NETWORKING, STUDENTS HERE ALSO ATTEND SEMINARS IN FINANCIAL LITERACY AND SOFT SKILLS WHICH WILL HELP THEM IN ANY CAREER THEY CHOOSE. IN WEST PALM BEACH, JADE

About 1,200 Palm Beach County high school students got the chance to network with nearly 60 of the county’s top companies, agencies, and colleges at this year’s Claim Your Future showcase. The main goal of the event is to introduce students to the career paths available in South Florida and beyond.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 News“I want to be a physician assistant. So, I went to every kind of like health care medical booth,” Sophia R., a sophomore at West Boca Community High School, said.Sophia already knows what she wants to do.“Me and my sister just kind of talking about it, we built such an amazing bond over the years, and we wanted to do something together. So, she is a few years older than me. And we wanted to open up our own medical spa because its super feminine and it's all about beauty. And that's what we love,” Sophia said.Now, the Claim Your Future showcase is helping her hone in on how she can achieve that goal.“The benefit is they get to see job opportunities right here in Palm Beach County career path. And they can decide you know, how they want to further their education, whether that be college or career technical education or maybe join the armed forces or you know, you jump right into the workforce,” Michael J. Burke, the superintendent of the School District of Palm Beach County, said.Burke said the annual event is a collaboration between the school district and the Business Development Board Foundation of Palm Beach County.The partnership helps the district tailor their career choice programs in schools to meet the needs of the future workforce, and students are grateful.“I love it. Because, like you know, in a lot of other districts and counties and stuff, they don't do stuff like this. And I feel like this is a great opportunity for us to see what else we can do, what can we do over the summer and like, I think it's just a really great opportunity for us,” Nathanial Sasser, a senior at Suncoast High School, said.In addition to networking, students also attend seminars about financial literacy and soft skills which will help them in any career they choose.
