A Brentwood bakery owner is making sure that a group of local cheerleaders can make it to a national tournament in Florida.
The Brentwood High School varsity cheerleading team qualified for the Universal Cheerleaders Association Nationals Competition but needed help to take care of the expenses to get there.
Campbell's Bakery Owner Gregory Napolitano saw the News 12 story about the team's fundraising efforts and felt the need to help.
"This is something really special - I wanted the girls to go down and have a good time," Napolitano said.
Brentwood varsity cheer coach Tanisha Pessoa was invited to Napolitano's bakery for a special treat.
Napolitano handed Pessoa a check for $3,000, helping the team exceed their GoFundMe page's goal of $5,000.
The cheer coach says the support means everything to her and her team.
"They're going to focus on the positive - people who care about them, do well, stay focused and hopefully hit our routing the way we need to and bring something home," Pessoa said.
When the cheerleaders return, the bakery owners say they will send over cake for them to celebrate.
The team departs for Orlando on Feb. 8.
Pessoa says extra money raised will be used for their youth summer cheer camp program to prepare for the next class of cheerleaders.
