NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police released an image Tuesday of the hit-and-run driver they say struck a police officer and other cars in a mad dash away from a traffic stop in the Bronx last week.

Officers from the 44th Precinct spotted the black Mercedes-Benz with Pennsylvania plates jump a red light at the intersection of East 173 Street and Clay Avenue in Claremont at 5:20 p.m. last Tuesday, police said.

When cops tried to stop the car, the driver fled the scene and struck one of the officers, causing minor injuries to his knee, hands and back.

According to police, he also hit five cars, including two parked and occupied vehicles and three parked and empty vehicles, with no other injuries reported.

The officer was removed to NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center for his injuries, treated and released.

The vehicle was found abandoned minutes later, and the male fled on foot to parts unknown.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
