Chattanooga Libraries Offer Free Museum Passes for the Hunter

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Starting this week, the Chattanooga Public Library will offer free museum passes that provide admission to the Hunter Museum of American Arts.

These free museum passes cover admission for two adults to the Hunter Museum and are valid for seven days. They can be checked out as easy as anything else from the library, and only a library card is needed.

This new pass is the continuation of a partnership established last year between the Chattanooga Public Library and the Hunter Museum intended to make art more accessible to the public.

Public Relations Coordinator Christina Sacco expressed the importance of making art accessible. “We are so lucky to have the Hunter… you get to experience a lot of classical, traditional arts throughout the decades, but they also do these very innovative, very now special exhibits throughout the year.”

All five library locations will carry a museum pass along with pre-existing passes from other partnerships: the Chattanooga Zoo, the Creative Discovery Museum, Reflection Riding and the Audubon Society. Passes for the Audubon Society and Reflection riding are available only at the downtown location.

The library’s partnership with the Hunter includes more paths to free admission and education.  Sunday Studios are held the second Sunday of every month from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and provide hands-on activities that connect attendants to the art exhibits. Admission to these events is free with a library card.

February’s Sunday Studio will be held on the 11th and will be focused on Beauford Delaney’s Metamorphosis into Freedom and Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe. 

Sacco believes these events are integral to children as they are learning. Hosting free events allows the whole family to experience and learn something new.

She also wants to keep these experiences fresh and give the community what they want and need. If there are any books, programs, equipment or resources you would like available at the Public Library you can submit a request on their website.
