Warren County deputy jailer arrested, charged with unlawful imprisonment

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Warren County deputy jailer was arrested on Jan. 30.

An arrest citation says Bowling Green police responded the day prior to a disturbance on Village Creek Drive.

According to the citation, Kevin Schmidt, 26, of Bowling Green told police at the scene he had pepper sprayed his wife and her new boyfriend, Zacary Mires.

The citation further states Schmidt said to police he was “acting in official peace officer capacity and investigating a crime.”

Schmidt told police he had found a glass pipe with suspected marijuana residue in a cabinet when he arrived home from work, according to the citation.

Police say Schmidt says he pepper sprayed the boyfriend twice because of Mires threatening physical harm to him.

The wife told police Schmidt had said she and Mires were “detained due to a pending investigation,” the citation states.

Police seized the glass pipe with suspected marijuana.

Schmidt was arrested and taken to the Warren County Detention Center before being transferred to Barren County Detention Center.

He is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, tampering with physical evidence, impersonating a peace officer and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) minor injury.

Warren County jailer Stephen Harmon confirms Schmidt is on administrative suspension without pay pending the outcome of the case.

Schmidt remains in the Barren County Detention Center with a $6,000 bond.
